HISTORY

This event was created in the year 2000 to welcome walkers from all over the world to the nation’s capital city in friendship. The first US Freedomwalk Festival took place in Washington, DC in 2001. In 2006, the US FreedomWalk Festival was voted in as a member of the IML (International Marching League) Walking Association.

This walking weekend was originally hosted by the Office of the Surgeon General of the United States; Arlington County, Virginia; the National Cathedral and AVA Club 901.  It was a three-day civil and military, noncompetitive social and fitness walk for everyone. It was also a physical fitness challenge that promoted friendship and education about the USA and other countries.
